Brenda Podolski has been breeding Section A and B Welsh Ponies under the Alvesta prefix for over 50 years, while her husband, John, farms grain and beef cattle. Here is a fifth-generation Alvesta mare with rider Ava in front of one row of hay harvested at Podolski Farm in Alberta. Alvesta Naiya: 7-year-old Section B Mare (Llanarth Tarquin x Alvesta Sweet N Spicy by CadlanValley Pirate).

PIRATE AND HIS FAMILY

CadlanValley Pirate loves having his mares and foals with him and is so gentle with them. Year-around Alvesta Lotus Blossom lives in Pirate's pasture, which suits them both just fine. Lotus isn't high up in the main herd's chain of dominance, but Pirate is always very respectful of his mares, so finally Lotus gets to be boss. When spring comes, their foal joins them; while Pirate's other mares and foals come and go throughout the breeding season. All foals can often be found at Pirate's side.

The picture on the right is one of our favourite photos of their little family: Alvesta Buttercup comes looking for attention, while mom and dad watch from their hay pile. The pictures on the left are of their 2016 foal, Alvesta Scarlet Sage.
